Set the police station on fire and burned the SI,” Bangladeshi SAD student leader warns police; threatens them with reminders of 2024 violence!

Serious questions have been raised about the law and order situation in Bangladesh. A video going viral on social media shows student leaders openly threatening police officers at the Shayestaghaj police station. Sources say the incident took place in the eastern Habiganj district on Friday afternoon. According to the video, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement (SAD) reached the police station and demanded the release of an accused. Their target was Enamul Hasan alias Nayan, who was detained late Thursday night. Nayan is said to be a leader of the formerly banned Chhatra League and is accused of having links with a student organization affiliated with the Bangladesh Awami League.

Student leader threatens police officer
SAD movement leader Mahdi Hasan was seen openly threatening police officers in a video. He referred to the 2024 violence and the burning of a police station, warning of dire consequences if Nayan was not immediately released. In the video, Mahdi Hasan is seen saying, “We formed this government, yet you are taking away our boys and now you are bargaining.”

According to the report, SAD leaders and activists sat in front of Shayestaghaj police station officer-in-charge Abul Kalam and other policemen. Mahdi Hasan also mentioned the 2024 violence, in which 17 people were ” martyred
” during the agitation in Habiganj. He said their aim was to warn the police that Nayan’s release was essential.

Political and administrative debate intensifies
The role of Islamist elements in the SAD movement led to the downfall of the Hasina government in 2024. The Chhatra League, the student wing of then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was banned in 2024. The viral video has sparked debate in Bangladesh about the impartiality of the police and the government’s grip on the situation. However, no official statement has yet been issued by any official authority on the matter.
