In Chandel district of Manipur, the security forces have achieved great success on Wednesday. The Indian Army said that a unit of the Assam Rifles has killed at least 10 militants in a fierce operation. During this operation, a large amount of arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the militants. This action is part of the ongoing state-wide operation against various militant outfits active in Manipur.

The Eastern Command of the Army, giving information on social media platform X, said that a unit of the Assam Rifles had received special intelligence about the activities of armed militants near the India-Myanmar border near New Samtal village in Chandel district. Based on this information, the army started quick action.
According to the statement of the army, the militants started firing on the soldiers during the operation. In response, the soldiers launched an effective retaliatory action in which at least 10 militants were killed. The army also clarified that operations in the area are still ongoing.
13 militants were arrested last week
This operation shows the swift action of security forces against militancy in Manipur. Just last week on May 10, at least 13 militants were arrested in a joint operation by the security forces and the police. A senior police official said that the arrested were active members of banned militant groups and were allegedly involved in illegal activities like extortion. Among those arrested on May 10 were two active members of the Kanglepak Communist Party People’s War Group faction, identified as Ningthoujam Kiran Meitei alias Boinao (29) and Sorokhaibam Inaocha Singh (45).
The army is fighting terrorism on two fronts
This incident has taken place at a time when there is also tension on the India-Pakistan border and military operations like ‘Operation Sindoor’ have shown India’s firm commitment against terrorism. However, the ongoing conflict in Manipur shows that India’s internal security challenges are no less serious where militancy and crimes such as extortion continue to persist.
This action of the army and other security forces is not only targeting the terrorists but is also an important step towards restoring peace and security in Manipur. As this operation progresses, all eyes are on how much these efforts will help in bringing stability to the state.
