The Trump administration has presented a golden chance for immigrants living in America illegally. The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has tripled the incentive amount given for self-deportation. The government’s aim is to make the deportation process cheaper, faster and more efficient.
$3,000 reward and ‘free’ return home
The Trump administration has increased financial incentives to lure illegal immigrants. 3,000 dollars (about 2.5 lakh rupees) will be given to the migrants who are willing to leave the US on their own accord. Earlier this amount was only $1,000. If an expatriate registers through the ‘CBP One’ app by December 31, 2025, the government will arrange a free air ticket to return to his country. Heavy civil fines and fines incurred due to overstay will also be completely waived.
How will this process work?
The government has described it as fast, free and easy. For this the expats only need to take these steps:
- Download the CBP One app on your smartphone.
- Submitting your information and opting for self-deportation.
- After this, the entire travel arrangements will be handled by the government.
If you don’t choose the option, you will never be able to come back
Homeland Security Secretary Kristy Noem issued a stern warning, calling the plan a “limited-time opportunity.” Those who do not take advantage of this plan will be found, arrested and forcibly deported. Such people will be permanently banned from entering the United States in the future.
Government will benefit up to 70%
According to DHS, it costs an average of $17,121 to arrest, incarcerate, and then deport an illegal immigrant. Directing people with incentives would reduce this cost by up to 70 percent, saving American taxpayers money.
Even more dangerous preparations for 2026
According to reports, nearly 1.9 million people have voluntarily left the U.S. since January 2025, but the administration isn’t stopping there:
- New Funding: Billions of dollars in funding are being allocated for an even tougher campaign in 2026.
- Recruitment and technology: Thousands of new officers are being recruited and private detective companies and modern technology will be used to identify people living illegally.
