Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Fredrik Nielsen has clearly replied to US President Donald Trump that Greenland is neither for sale nor does it want to become a part of America. He said that Greenland is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark and it fully trusts the NATO alliance. Trump has said many times that America can buy Greenland or take it under its control. Responding strongly to this, Nielsen said, “Greenland will not become a part of America. We are not for sale nor can we be bought or occupied by any country.”

“We are not Americans or Danish, we are Greenlanders.”
The Greenlandic Prime Minister and leaders of other political parties issued a joint statement. It said: “We don’t want to be Americans, we don’t want to be Danish, we want to be Greenlanders. Only the people of Greenland will decide the future of Greenland.” This statement clearly states that Greenland wants complete control over its identity, land, and decisions.
Denmark’s PM also warned Trump
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen also described Trump’s statement as extremely serious. She said that the US’s increasing pressure on Greenland is a dangerous situation. She warned: “If the US attacks or attempts to forcibly occupy Greenland, it could lead to the collapse of the NATO alliance.” She appealed to European countries to stand firmly with international law and the right of people to self-determination.
Why does Trump want Greenland?
Donald Trump recently stated that Greenland is vital to US national security. He even stated that the US could acquire it “easy or hard.” According to Trump, Greenland’s geographical location is crucial and it contains valuable mineral resources. Russia and China’s presence in the Arctic region is growing, which is why the US wants to see Greenland under its control.
