US President Donald Trump has his sights set on Greenland these days. According to a report in the Daily Mail, Trump reportedly asked Special Forces to consider developing an invasion plan, exploring the possibility of potential military action in Greenland. The report claims that this idea emerged in the atmosphere of confidence created by the recent US operation involving Venezuela.
However, this alleged proposal was immediately and strongly rejected by top US military commanders. Military leadership stated that military action against any country or territory without prior congressional approval is illegal under the US Constitution. The generals categorically stated that the plan was “neither serious nor feasible.” According to the report, Pentagon officials also underlined that Greenland is a strategically important territory, but it is under Danish control and part of the NATO framework. Therefore, any military action there could seriously harm international law, NATO commitments, and US-Europe relations.
Sources claim that military commanders also told Trump that attacking a sovereign or allied territory would not only create legal risks but also increase geopolitical instability in the Arctic region. This is why the alleged proposal was declined to proceed. At present, there has been no official confirmation of this report from the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) or the White House. Analysts believe that Trump’s previous statements regarding Greenland have sparked controversy, and this latest claim is seen as a continuation of that trend.
