According to the US-based ‘Human Rights Activists News Agency’, the death toll in the nationwide protests in Iran has risen to at least 538 and more than 10,670 people have been detained. Internet and phone services have been shut down in Iran in view of the protests, making it difficult to get a real estimate of the demonstration.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that his country is “closely monitoring” the outcome of the widespread protests in Iran. “The people of Israel and the entire world are overwhelmed by the extraordinary courage of the Iranian citizens,” Netanyahu said at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting. Condemning the killing of civilians, Netanyahu expressed hope that relations between Israel and Iran would be strengthened again once Iran is “free from tyranny.” An Israeli official said Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on a range of topics, including Iran.
