US President Donald Trump has ordered the transfer of two US nuclear submarines amid ‘extremely provocative statements’ by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Trump said in a post on his social media platform that based on Medvedev’s ‘extremely provocative statements’, he has ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines in appropriate areas. The President said, “Statements are very important and sometimes they lead to unwanted adverse consequences, I hope that Medvedev’s statements do not lead to this.”
In fact, Trump had called Medvedev a “failed former president of Russia” in a post early Thursday. A few hours later, Medvedev responded, saying, “Russia is right in every respect and will continue on its path.” The war of words between the two countries started this week, when Medvedev wrote, “Trump is playing the ultimatum game with Russia. He should remember two things, first-Russia is not Israel or Iran. Second, every new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war. Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country (America).”
On Friday, when Trump was leaving the White House, he did not give any information when asked where the submarines were relocated. Trump said, “We had to do this. We just have to be careful. There was a threat. We felt it was not appropriate, so I have to be very careful.” Trump also said, “I am doing this for the safety of my people. When you talk about nuclear power, we have to be ready. We are fully prepared.” Medvedev was the President of Russia from 2008 to 2012 after Vladimir Putin was barred from contesting elections for the third time. Later Medvedev resigned after Putin was allowed to contest elections again.
