Former US President Donald Trump has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should first sit and talk to each other. Trump also made it clear that if necessary, he would also attend their next meeting. Trump suggested that before the trilateral talks, there should be a bilateral meeting between Putin and Zelensky, so that both can put their issues forward directly. He believes that both leaders should discuss before agreeing on a ceasefire.
Trump said, “I had a good meeting with both Putin and Zelensky. But I think it would be better if both leaders sit down without me first. I want to see what happens between the two.” He said that the relationship between Putin and Zelensky is very bad and that is why this meeting can be important. During his meeting with Donald Trump in Alaska, Putin had talked about considering any agreement or ceasefire only with three strict conditions.
Regions like Crimea and Donbass should be recognized as annexed to Russia. Ukraine should refuse to join NATO. Russian speakers in Ukraine should get cultural and political rights and if they are discriminated against, Russia will be free to take action. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already said that he is ready to meet Putin. However, so far Putin has not agreed to any such meeting.
