The attempt of the Democratic Party MPs to stop US President Donald Trump from taking any further action against Iran was rejected in the upper house of the Parliament, the Senate, on Friday. Trump’s Republican Party opposed the proposal being presented in the Parliament. The purpose of this proposal by Senator Tim Kaine was to ensure that Trump would have to seek the approval of the Parliament before taking any further military action against Iran.
When asked if he would bomb Iran’s nuclear sites again if he felt it was necessary, Trump said, “Absolutely, without hesitation.” Passing of the resolution was considered a distant dream. The Republican Party has a majority in the Senate and it has 53 members in the 100-member Senate. Republican Party MPs stand with President Trump for the decision to attack Iran.
Most Republican lawmakers say Iran poses an imminent threat that requires decisive action from Trump. They supported Trump’s decision to bomb three Iranian nuclear sites last weekend without Congress’ approval.
