Iran’s history bears witness to the fact that whenever voices have been raised against its Islamic system, fundamentalist laws, or issues like the hijab, the government has used force to suppress protests. In 2022, nearly 500 people were killed in protests following the death of Mahsa Amini over the hijab. The current Gen-Z movement is against inflation and unemployment. This time, the situation is even more dangerous.

According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency, 544 people have died so far. These include 496 protesters and 48 security personnel. More than 10,000 people have been arrested or detained. The Iranian government is calling these protests a conspiracy by the US and Israel.
Called protesters terrorists
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has labeled the protesters as terrorists. He says the demonstrators are damaging public and private property, attacking security forces and civilians, and that they have been armed from outside to plunge Iran into civil war. The Iranian government has also released several videos showing clashes between protesters and police.
