A special court under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Sriganganagar has sentenced an 18-year-old youth to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty of raping a girl under 16 years of age. Besides, a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh has also been imposed on the accused.
Special Public Prosecutor Harbir Singh Brar said as per the FIR, on the night of March 27-28, the victim was watching TV in the outer room of her house, when Aslam Ali, alias Aslam Khan, a resident of Sardargarh, and his unknown accomplice barged into the room. They both took turns to rape her. When she resisted, the accused also assaulted her, causing injuries. The victim raised an alarm, upon which her father, brother, and uncle came running, but the duo fled the spot.
The victim lodged a case against Aslam Khan and his unknown accomplice. During the investigation, the police checked the footage of a CCTV camera installed nearby. In the footage, Aslam was seen going towards the victim’s house alone at 1:13 am. The involvement of any other youth was not confirmed.
