Situation in Iran out of control: India issues new advisory, warning its citizens to leave the country immediately

Amid the ongoing violent anti-government protests and increasing violence in Iran, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a new and strict advisory for Indian citizens. The Embassy has appealed to all Indians residing in Iran – students, pilgrims, businessmen and tourists – to leave Iran as soon as possible through available means, especially commercial flights. This advisory has been issued in continuation of the earlier advisory issued on January 5, 2025. The Embassy has said that the situation in Iran is constantly changing and reports of violent protests, arson and clashes with security forces are coming in from many cities.

Indian citizens have been advised to stay away from protest sites and crowded areas, monitor local media, and remain in touch with the Embassy. The Embassy has also clarified that all Indian citizens should always keep their passports and identity cards ready. In view of the partial or complete ban on internet services, the Embassy has also appealed to the families of Indians stranded in Iran to register their loved ones from India. The Embassy has issued several helpline numbers and email IDs for emergency situations so that any assistance can be provided immediately.
