Panic erupted at America’s prestigious Brown University when a shooting occurred on campus. At least two people were killed and eight others were injured. Final exams were underway at the university at the time, causing panic among students and staff.
Shooter still absconding, police on alert mode
Police have confirmed that the attacker has not yet been apprehended. Initially, officials said a suspect had been detained, but later clarified that no arrests had been made and that the person apprehended was not involved in the attack. An alert issued by the university stated that the shooter is still on the loose, so the situation remains extremely critical.
Campus completely closed, students instructed to hide
At around 4:15 p.m., Brown University issued an emergency alert, urging everyone to stay put, lock their doors, put their phones on silent, and stay out until further notice. The university was then placed on a complete lockdown.
The suspect, dressed in black, was seen running from the building.
Deputy Police Chief Timothy O’Hara said the suspect was a man wearing dark clothing and was last seen leaving a building. Police are conducting a search of the campus and surrounding areas.
