Russia-Ukraine peace talks stalled: Zelensky said- “Putin has no interest in peace, now hopes from Trump and Europe”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday that Ukrainian officials want to meet US President Donald Trump and European leaders next week to discuss recent developments in efforts to end the three-year-long war with Russia. The purpose of these meetings is to advance peace efforts. Zelensky has expressed deep disappointment that Russia is not showing any interest in talks and attacks on civilians continue. Trump has also expressed displeasure over the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin has rejected the US proposal for direct talks with Zelensky.

Trump had said that if the talks did not take place within two weeks, he would decide on further steps. Last month, Trump said that Putin “talks nicely, but then bombs everything.” However, he also criticized the attacks carried out by Ukraine. The head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, on Friday discussed preparations for the upcoming meetings with Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff in New York. Yermak said in a social media post, “The most important thing is to pursue real diplomacy and implement all the agreements reached at the Washington summit. We are coordinating our efforts.”

Yermak said he briefed Vitkoff on Russia’s recent attacks on Ukraine and that despite Putin’s meeting with Trump in Alaska this month, he showed no interest in peace efforts. “Unfortunately, Russia is not moving forward on any of the issues needed to end the war and is deliberately dragging out the conflict. Ukraine supports the strong will of President Trump and all other partner countries to reach a lasting peace as soon as possible. Ukraine welcomes every peace initiative made by the US, but regrettably, Russia is not interested in them,” Yermak wrote in a post on X.
