Punjab Government launches “Dengue Free Punjab” App for Android mobiles

SAS Nagar 11 Aug 2016: The Punjab government has launched the ‘Dengue Free’ mobile application in the state.

Officially launching the application during a meeting of the Civil Surgeons and SMOs all over the state, Health and Family Welfare Minister Punjab Surjeet Kumar Jayani said that the main aim of launching this hi tech mobile app was a step ahead in the mission to declare Punjab dengue free besides generating more awareness amongst the people of the state. He also said that Punjab was the first State in the country to have launched such an app. The Government of India had launched a similar mobile app for dengue in February this year. The mobile app for dengue has been named “Dengue Free Punjab” and it can be downloaded free of cost from Google play store. It was also informed that app could be run in English or Punjabi and any one who has downloaded the app could seek complete information about dengue fever, its causes, prevention and management. People can also know about the nearest testing and treatment centres of the government of Punjab from this app. The app would also notify the exact location and distance of the hospital from the address of the patient. Anyone who has downloaded the app could also call the medical helpline at 104 and ambulance 108 through this app.

During the meeting, minister Jayani especially honoured three districts namely Patiala, Pathankot and Barnala for delivering prompt and quality health care facilities in the government hospitals and dispensaries under their control to the people. He said that these districts were selected on the basis of the overall outstanding work rendered by the government health institutions. Similarly district hospital Mansa, Dasuya, Abohar, Mallout and Kinnaor Community Health Centre in Patiala were also conferred with awards. The Minister assured that the Punjab government was committed to provide best health care at affordable rates to the people of the state.

Addressing the officers, Principal Secretary Health Vini Mahajan said that Health department was also providing free treatment to the Heptitis C patients in the government hospitals. She said that there was no paucity of funds in extending medical facilities to people. She also said that health and hygiene was amongst top priorities of the state government. She also advised the doctors attending the meeting not to unnecessarily ask the expectant mothers to go in for the ultrasounds except only in essential conditions. The medicines should be clearly prescribed and ensured that these medicines are made available to the patients free of cost from within the government hospitals. She also asked the doctors to stop the practice of referring the patients’ to PGI and other hospitals for common ailments.
Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included, Hussan Lal, Secretary Health, Director Health Dr. H.S.Bali and Director Family Welfare Dr. Dharam Pal.
