Indira Gandhi served the country as Prime Minister from 24 January 1966 to 24 March 1977. However, he also completed one more term from 1980 to 1984, but that was a gap between the two terms.

Jawaharlal Nehru is still the number one

Before becoming the Prime Minister, Modi was also the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014, and he is also the longest serving Chief Minister of the BJP.

In 2014, the BJP registered a historic victory under his leadership and formed an absolute majority government at the Center by winning 272 seats. In 2019, this figure increased to 303. Although the BJP alone did not get a majority in 2024, the party along with the NDA formed the government for the third time.

Many records as a non-Congress PM
Narendra Modi is the first non-Congress Prime Minister who completed two terms and returned to power for the third time. Not only this, he is the first non-Congress leader to single-handedly win a majority in the Lok Sabha. Before this, only Indira Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru became the Prime Minister for three consecutive terms.

This achievement of Modi is not limited to political figures. He has created an image of a reliable leader among the people of the country. His leadership, development oriented plans and India’s strong presence on the global stage are the main reasons for his popularity.
