Neeraj Chopra created history in the Doha Diamond League, clearing the 90m hurdle

India’s golden hero Neeraj Chopra finally did what fans and pundits had been waiting for years—he crossed the legendary 90m mark in the javelin. At the 2025 Doha Diamond League, two-time Olympic medalist Chopra threw the shuttlecock a spectacular distance of 90.23 meters in his third attempt, which immediately gave him the lead and electrified the atmosphere in the stadium. The distance of 90 meters was not limited to numbers. It became a mountain for Chopra. He came close to it many times, but often fell short with high scores of 88 and 89 meters.

Despite Olympic gold in Tokyo, World Championship gold in Budapest, and dominance in the Diamond League, one question always remained: when will Neeraj break the 90m distance? Now this question has been answered – and that too with full force.

In a packed stadium and in the presence of world-class javelin throwers, Chopra performed brilliantly when it was needed most.

With this throw, Neeraj joined the club of elite javelin throwers who have achieved a distance of more than 90 metres, including reigning Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem, and further cemented his status as one of the sport’s all-time greats. Relief and happiness were evident on his face—this was not just a figure; It was a personal milestone.

Doha is his first major tournament of the season, where Neeraj faces top stars like two-time world champion and 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Anderson Peters of Grenada, 2024 winner Jakub Wadlech of Czech Republic, Germany’s Julian Weber and Max Dehning, Kenya’s Julius Yego, and Japan’s Roderick Janki Dean.
