Missing for 2 months, Shahkot youth caught in Pak’s Kasur sector

A Shahkot-based youth, missing for nearly two months, has reportedly crossed the India-Pakistan border and has been apprehended in the neighbouring nation’s Kasur sector. Pakistan released a photograph on Wednesday showing the missing youth, Sharandeep Singh (23), a resident of Bhoepur village in Shahkot, with Pakistan Rangers. However, it is still not clear under what circumstances Sharandeep crossed the border.

His father, Satnam Singh, said he had lodged a missing report with the police. He also said that an FIR had earlier been registered against his son and that Sharandeep had remained lodged in a Kapurthala jail. He went missing a few days after being released on bail.

“Sharandeep’s father told us that his son left home without any information on November 2. However, he reported the matter to us on November 7. He was facing a case of petty fight,” said SSP Jalandhar Rural Harwinder S Virk.

Satnam Singh, a labourer, said, “Our son had gone somewhere with another youth on November 2. While the other youth returned, Sharandeep did not come back. We kept asking his friend about our son’s whereabouts, but he only told us that they had gone to Khemkaran, from where Sharandeep did not return. He was into wrestling for 10 years. He was arrested by the police over a fight with some boys. He suffered injury on a hand about 1.5 years ago and since then he got hooked on drugs. We got to know about his arrest through reports on social media. We will follow whatever directions the government will give us for our son’s release.”
