Iranian supporters celebrate on the streets of Beirut, posters showing Trump kneeling in front of Khamenei

The 12-day fierce military conflict between Iran and Israel has now ended. Both countries have stopped the attacks after the American-brokered ceasefire on Tuesday morning. This struggle may have been of limited duration, but its effects are long-lasting and profound.

Celebrating ‘Victory’: Celebrations in the Gulf and Lebanon

  • In pro-Iranian organizations and sectors, this struggle is being seen as a “victory”.
  • In Dahiyeh, a southern suburb of the Lebanese capital Beirut, considered a Hezbollah stronghold, banners were put up on the streets that read: “Iran defeated Israel in war.”
  • One poster shows US President Donald Trump on his knees in front of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

Intensity of missile and drone attacks

  • According to Israel, Iran fired more than 550 ballistic missiles during the conflict.
  • About 1,000 drones were also launched, most of which were intercepted by Israel’s air defense system, but some missiles and shrapnel fell into Israeli territory, causing heavy damage.

Damages and compensation: The costliest attack ever

  • According to the Israeli Tax Authority, the property damage from this attack more than doubled the total damage from Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthi attacks since 7 October 2023.
  • More than 40,000 people have filed compensation claims so far. It is estimated that this figure may reach more than 50,000.
  • The total value of the damage is estimated at about 5 billion new shekels ($1.47 billion).

Affected Infrastructure: From Homes to Factories

  • Dozens of apartments, factories and commercial buildings were destroyed in the attack.
  • Many factories are still assessing their losses.
