US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on the phone for more than two hours on Monday, in which a possible ceasefire was discussed to end the war in Ukraine. After these talks, Putin said that Russia is ready to work on agreements, including a cease-fire, provided they are acceptable to all parties. He thanked Trump and said that the talks were important, clear and useful.

According to White House officials, Trump told Putin that if Russia was not serious about peace, the US would consider ending the mediation process. After this, Trump also spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and plans to discuss with NATO member countries.
However, Ukrainian officials are skeptical about the talks between Trump and Putin. Zelensky said that despite Russia’s continued attacks on energy and infrastructure, the seriousness of Russia’s peace is being questioned. He said that this war cannot be played only according to Putin’s rules.
Meanwhile, European leaders have also supported Trump’s initiative, but some countries have expressed concern about the security of Ukraine’s interests in any agreement with Russia. In this context, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held a tripartite meeting in Rome, in which US Vice President J.D. Vance and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen attended. Ukraine war and global trade were discussed in this meeting.
