Just two days earlier, another Hindu youth, Joy Mahapatra, died under suspicious circumstances in Sunamganj district. Family members allege that Joy was brutally beaten and then poisoned by a local man. These repeated incidents have created an atmosphere of panic within the entire Hindu community.

8 Hindus killed in 25 days, fear growing

The statistics are even more alarming. In just the past 25 days, eight Hindus have been murdered in Bangladesh. On December 18th, Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death by a mob of extremists in the Bhaluka area of Mymensingh district. Six days later, on December 24th, Amrit Mandal was murdered.

On December 12th, 2025, Inquilab Manch leader Sharif Osman Hadi was shot in Dhaka and later died while undergoing treatment in Singapore. Following this incident, the situation deteriorated further, and attacks on minorities intensified.

Horrifying cases have emerged from different districts

Reports of attacks and murders of Hindus have emerged from several areas of Bangladesh. The murders of Dipu Chandra Das, Amrit Mandal, Bajendra Biswas, and Khokan Chandra Das have shocked the entire community. On January 5th, ice factory owner Rana Pratap Bairagi, who was also the executive editor of the newspaper BD Khabar, was murdered in Jessore district. On the same day, shopkeeper Sarat Mani Chakraborty was also murdered in Narsingdi district.

These incidents have been confirmed by the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council. According to the organization, at least 51 incidents of communal violence were recorded in December alone. These include 10 murders, 23 cases of looting and arson, 10 incidents of robbery and theft, four cases of detention and torture on false blasphemy charges, one incident of attempted rape, and three cases of physical assault.

India expressed strong concern

India has expressed deep concern over the increasing violence against minorities in Bangladesh. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the repeated attacks by extremists on minorities, their homes, and businesses are extremely worrying. He stressed that such communal incidents must be dealt with firmly and swiftly.

Randhir Jaiswal also said that dismissing these attacks as personal grudges or political disputes is wrong, as this emboldens criminals and extremists. India has clarified that the safety of minorities in Bangladesh is of utmost importance and such incidents should not be ignored under any circumstances.
