Residents of the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary and villages in the Sukhna catchment area will have to stay safe from leopards and other animals. In the coming days, tourists visiting the sanctuary will be transported in vehicles. Entry into the sanctuary has also been restricted. Chandigarh’s Forest and Wildlife Department has issued an advisory advising people to exercise caution, given the persistent and regular presence of leopards in these areas.

Following the recent wildlife survey of the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary, which revealed the presence of leopards and other wild animals, experts from the Forest and Wildlife Department conducted a field visit to the sanctuary on December 13th. This field visit included visits to the sanctuary’s permanent habitats, as well as water sources where leopards and other wild animals come to drink water. Following the survey, and the discovery of leopards during the field visit, the department contacted officials at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, regarding public safety.
