The Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on the use of 11 harmful pesticides used in Basmati rice cultivation. Giving information about this, Dr. Fatehgarh Sahib District Agriculture Officer. Gurnam Singh said that during the export of basmati rice, the quantity of some pesticides was found to be higher than the international standards, due to which the export is being hampered. Along with this, the farmers were not getting the proper price. Due to this, the government has decided to impose a complete ban on these pesticides. He appealed to the farmers not to use the following 11 pesticides and their mixture or any form for the cultivation of basmati rice.

These 11 pesticides are banned

1. Acephate 2. Buprofazine 3. Chlorpyrifos 4. Carbofuran 5. Propiconazole 6. Thimethoxam 7. Profinophos 8. Imidacloprid 9. Carbendazim 10. Tricyclazole 11. Tebuconazole

Dr. Gurnam Singh also said that if a dealer wants to sell this discontinued pesticide for any other crop, then it will be mandatory for him to write the name of that crop on the bill or cash memo. Every dealer has to keep a complete record of sale of these 11 substances. He finally warned farmers that the presence of these banned pesticides in agriculture at the time of export affects both the future demand and price of basmati rice. This decision is in the interest of farmers and they need to move towards quality production.
