Canada: Investigation launched into the case of an Indian who died due to lack of treatment in a hospital

The Department of Health has formed a committee to investigate the cause of death of Indian-origin Prashant Sri Kumar (44) who was admitted to Edmonton’s Grey Nun Community Hospital with chest pain due to lack of timely treatment. Health Minister Matt John said that Acute Care Alberta and Covenant Health, under whose supervision the hospital is being operated, will jointly determine the cause of the man’s death.

He said that if anyone is found guilty, strict action will be taken against him and such arrangements will be made so that this does not happen in the future.Varinder Bhullar, a close relative of the victim’s family, said that while working in his office in the afternoon, Sreekumar suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest. His colleague took him to the hospital by car, where the nurses repeatedly checked his blood pressure, which was continuously increasing.

But no doctor started his treatment. According to Bhullar, after 8 hours of suffering in the emergency room due to severe pain, Mr. Kumar’s heart stopped beating. He expressed his grief and said, “It is often said that it was God’s will, but in this case, it is directly due to the negligence of the doctors that his friend has died.” Alberta Premier Daniel Smith expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and said that there will be a full investigation into the cause of death. It is worth noting that Acute Care Alberta took over the responsibility of the province’s health department a few months ago. The Chief Medical Examiner is investigating the case on his own. Local MLA Jasvir Deol, calling the incident a “terrible tragedy”, has demanded major improvements in provincial health services from the Chief Minister.
