At least 16 people died in a massive fire that broke out in a nursing home in Manado, the capital of Indonesia’s North Sulawesi province, on Sunday night. The accident occurred at the Panti Werdah Damai Nursing Home, located in the Pal Dua area of Manado’s Ranomut sub-district. The fire broke out at around 8:36 pm local time. As soon as the information was received, three fire engines were sent to the spot by the Manado City Administration. After a lot of hard work, the fire was brought under control at 9:30 pm.

According to Alamsyah P. Hasibuan, public relations chief of the North Sulawesi Regional Police, the bodies of those killed in the accident have been sent to Bhayangkara Hospital, where the identification process is underway. Coordination with the victims’ families will then be conducted. Following the fire, police immediately secured the area and launched a rescue operation. The injured and survivors were admitted to Manado City Regional Hospital and Permata Bunda Hospital.
