A massive fire broke out on Thursday evening on a local train, considered Mumbai’s lifeline, causing widespread panic. The flames were so intense that they were visible from far and wide. The incident occurred between Kurla and Vidyavihar railway stations around 8:30 pm. Fortunately, the local train that caught fire was empty at the time, so there were no reports of any casualties or property damage.

According to reports, a fire broke out in the second coach of a local train carrying garbage between Kurla and Vidyavihar stations. Local services on Central Railway were severely disrupted by the fire, and several trains were forced to halt en route. The fire brigade was called in to control the blaze, while local residents also helped.
Overhead wire current shut off for safety reasons
To control the situation and prevent a major accident, the railway administration completely cut off the power supply to the overhead wires between Ghatkopar and Sion stations. This resulted in a temporary disruption of Central Railway services, causing significant inconvenience to passengers.
Train services gradually restored
The fire was completely brought under control around 9 p.m., after which train traffic was gradually resumed. However, many local trains are still running late due to the impact of the incident. A video of the fire has also surfaced, clearly showing the high flames. Watching the video, one can imagine the magnitude of the fire.
During this time, slow local train services from Vidyavihar station to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus were also temporarily halted. The railway administration is investigating the cause of the fire.
