Delhi: Five people arrested in Turkman Gate violence case sent to 13-day judicial custody

Police has come into action mode after the violence at Turkman Gate in Delhi. A Delhi court on Thursday sent five people arrested in connection with the stone pelting incident near Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque at Turkman Gate to 13 days judicial custody. These five accused – Mohammad Arib, Kashif, Adnan, Mohammad Kaif and Sameer – were produced before Judicial Magistrate Pooja Suhag. The court sent all five accused to 13 days judicial custody.

A total of 11 arrests have been made so far.

The bail pleas of all five accused have been fixed for hearing on Friday. On Wednesday, Delhi Police registered an FIR against the five accused at Chandni Mahal police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as provisions of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984. A total of 11 arrests have been made in the case so far, including the detention of a minor. On Thursday, six more people – Affan, Adil, Shahnawaz, Hamza, Athar and Ubaid – residents of Turkman Gate area were arrested.

During the investigation into this violent incident, police revealed that Samajwadi Party MP Mohibullah Nadvi was present at the scene. Both are accused of inciting the mob. So far, 11 suspects have been arrested, and an investigation into a larger conspiracy is underway. Action will be taken against all those who instigated the violence.

According to police sources, a social media post claimed that a mosque located in front of Turkman Gate was being demolished during an anti-encroachment drive, prompting a gathering. Police sources claimed that 150 to 200 people threw stones and glass bottles at policemen and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) employees. MCD Deputy Commissioner Vivek Kumar stated that approximately 36,000 square feet of encroached area was cleared during the drive.
