Incidents of violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh continue unabated. The latest incident came to light from Shariatpur district, where a mob brutally attacked 50-year-old Hindu medicine seller, Khokan Das. It is alleged that the attackers first attacked him with sharp weapons, then severely beat him, and later tried to burn him alive by pouring petrol on his body. This incident is said to have taken place on December 31st, when Khokan Das was returning home. He was seriously injured in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. The police have registered a case and started an investigation, although no concrete action has been taken against the attackers so far.

Earlier, on December 18, 2025, in the Bhaluka area of Mymensingh district, Hindu garment worker Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death by a mob on charges of blasphemy. He was hanged from a tree and set on fire, resulting in his death. Subsequent investigations found the blasphemy allegations to be baseless, and several people were arrested. Furthermore, around December 28, attempts were made to target the homes of Hindu families in Dumritla village in Pirojpur district and the Raojan area of Chattogram. Several families were locked inside their homes and burned to death, although they somehow managed to escape.
It is noteworthy that during the tenure of the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, incidents of violence against Hindus and other minorities have increased. International human rights organizations have expressed deep concern and outrage over these incidents. Last week, India also expressed serious concern over the “continued hostility” against minorities in Bangladesh and stated that it is closely monitoring the events in its neighboring country.
