The Supreme Court has stayed the Delhi High Court order granting major relief to former MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is serving a life sentence in the Unnao rape case. The Supreme Court has stayed the implementation of the High Court order dated December 23, 2025 and clarified that Sengar will not be released from jail for the time being. After hearing the arguments of Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta, representing the CBI, and senior advocates representing the accused, a bench headed by Chief Justice (CJI) Surya Kant said that the matter raises several important questions of law which need to be considered. The court issued a notice and directed the filing of a reply within four weeks.
