The Supreme Court has stayed the Delhi High Court’s decision that reduced Sengar’s sentence. The vacation bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant made strong comments during the hearing. After the Supreme Court’s decision, the Unnao rape victim’s first reaction has come out. She expressed happiness over the decision of the country’s top court and said that she demands death penalty for Kuldeep Sengar. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared for the CBI in this high-profile case. After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the Supreme Court has stayed the High Court’s decision.
The Supreme Court has stayed the Delhi High Court order granting major relief to former MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is serving a life sentence in the Unnao rape case. The Supreme Court has stayed the implementation of the High Court order dated December 23, 2025 and clarified that Sengar will not be released from jail for the time being. After hearing the arguments of Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta, representing the CBI, and senior advocates representing the accused, a bench headed by Chief Justice (CJI) Surya Kant said that the matter raises several important questions of law which need to be considered. The court issued a notice and directed the filing of a reply within four weeks.
