A man was arrested for allegedly attacking a 60-year-old man with a knife over a personal grudge.

Delhi Police have arrested a man for allegedly stabbing a 60-year-old man in central Delhi, officials said on Wednesday. They said the attack was due to an ongoing feud over a property dispute.

Officials said Jugnu alias Ziauddin (42), a resident of Rakabganj, was arrested on the night of December 20 after examining CCTV footage and technical surveillance. They said the incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. near the Badi Masjid in Rakabganj. Police said the elderly man was returning home from the mosque after offering prayers when the accused attacked him, inflicting wounds on his chest.

The victim’s son, who witnessed the attack, took him to Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Hospital. Police said the injured man is unconscious and in no condition to record a statement. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan said a case has been registered under Section 109 (1) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 2023, based on the complaint from the victim’s son.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had a grudge against the victim’s family, who had vacated their residence approximately 18 months ago following a court order in their favor. DCP Valson said that police teams scanned footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras to locate the accused. Based on this analysis and local intelligence, the accused was apprehended near Delhi Gate on December 20th at around 11 pm.

Police have also recovered the knife used in the attack and the clothes the accused was wearing at the time of the crime. According to police, Ziauddin has more than 30 cases registered against him.
