The Punjab Women’s Commission and the Child Rights Commission have become active in the case of the murder of a 13-year-old girl in Jalandhar’s West Halke. Let it be known that the Chairperson of the Women’s Commission, Raj Lali Gill, along with the Child Commissioner Kanwardeep Singh, today met the family of the girl and shared their grief. He has sent a notice to the police commissioner and asked for a detailed report of the entire case.

Raj Lali said that all the facts related to the incident are being investigated and no responsible person will be spared. He raised the question that why the police did not recover from the house where the body of the girl was found. He said that the forensic team has collected the evidence and the post-mortem report has also been received by the police. The family wants the case to proceed in a fast-track court, for which the Commission has expressed its support. He also said that the old records of the accused Harwinder Singh are also being called suspicious, which will be investigated separately. The Commission will also seek an explanation from the Police Commissioner on the suspension of ASI Mangat Ram and further action.
Child Commissioner Kanwardeep Singh said in an interview with the media that this is not just a failure of the police but a collective failure of the society. He appealed to people to be more vigilant about the safety of children. He says that in this case there is a provision of severe punishment under the POCSO Act, which includes life imprisonment to hanging. After the accused was remanded for 9 days, the police is conducting a thorough investigation. Kanwardeep also advised the children of the family to get self-defense training, so that the children can protect themselves in such situations.
