Chandigarh is On Alert, As 10,000 farmers if Planning to Enter Chandigarh, police deployed

Wednesday is going to be a challenging day for the Chandigarh Police. On one hand, the United Kisan Morcha (SKM) will reach the Dussehra ground in Sector-43 to celebrate the 5th anniversary of its movement and on the other hand, the Punjab University Bachao Morcha has announced a complete shutdown in the university. Chandigarh Police has arranged tight security at both the places. Due to these two projects, congestion, traffic jams and security challenges are expected to increase in the city.

3,000 personnel of Chandigarh Police will remain on duty. IG Pushpendra and SSP Kanwardeep Kaur will personally take charge of the security arrangements. The police have allowed farmers’ organizations to hold a peaceful rally at Dussehra ground in Sector-43. According to the police, about 10,000 protestors belonging to more than 30 farmers’ organizations across the country may reach Chandigarh from Punjab, Haryana and neighboring states. Chandigarh Police has made strict security arrangements at the border as well. Barricades have been put up around the Dushara ground.

About 1500 soldiers will be stationed on duty at this place. 3 DSPs and 6 inspectors have also been given responsibility in Dushara ground. Farmers are not allowed to go beyond Dushahara ground. Farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal said that the purpose of the rally is to celebrate the 5th anniversary of SKM movement, to give legal guarantee to MSP, to withdraw the registered cases and to repeat the pending demands like compensation to the families of farmers who were martyred during the movement.
