Once again a shooting incident has created a stir in America. This time the target was the US Naval Academy in Maryland where several cadets and others were injured in the firing. After the incident, the entire campus has been sealed and the search for the attacker is on.
What happened?
According to reports, a midshipman stationed at the Naval Academy sent an email to students warning them to immediately go inside and close the doors. The email clearly stated, “This is not a drill.” According to reports, the sound of gunfire was heard in Bancroft Hall where more than 1,600 midshipmen live.
However, there is no official confirmation of anyone being killed yet. Some videos are also going viral on social media in which a Medivac helicopter is seen landing on the campus, but this too has not been confirmed yet.
Security agencies on the spot
Immediately after the incident, the Naval Academy and the nearby Navy base were put on lockdown for security reasons. Academy spokesman Lieutenant Navid Lamar said that no one would be allowed to go in or out until the accused is caught.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore’s office issued a statement saying that the situation has been brought under control and there is currently no major threat to the Naval Academy. NCIS and Maryland State Police have also started investigating along with Annapolis Police.
