Panic at Kathmandu airport, 2500 Indians stranded, state of emergency imposed

Security has been tightened in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu after violent protests by the ongoing ‘Gen Z’ movement. The situation is tense due to incidents of violence and arson at many places in the city. The army has been deployed at every nook and corner to maintain peace in the capital.

Tribhuvan International Airport closed

Considering the seriousness of the situation, Tribhuvan International Airport has been closed for all domestic and international flights. According to Air Traffic Control (ATC), the airport has been closed till 12 noon on 10 September 2025. Due to the sudden closure of the airport, many passengers are stranded here and are facing a lot of trouble.

What is the ‘Gen Z’ movement?

This movement has been started by the youth and students of Nepal in which they are protesting against the issues like government policies, increasing corruption and control on social media. In recent days, this movement took a violent turn after which the government started taking strict action.

This entire incident has caused a big upheaval in Nepal’s politics. At present, security agencies are trying to control the situation.
