Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said Israel’s attack on Iran was “totally unjustified” as the Islamic republic had not given the Jewish state any reason to wage war against it. “As far as I know, Iran did not give Israel any reason to attack Tehran. Israel has waged war against Iran at its own will, calling it a preemptive attack,” Abdullah told reporters here. Abdullah said it would be “very unfortunate” if world powers remained silent on Israel’s aggression. Israel attacked Iran’s capital Tehran on Friday morning, targeting the country’s nuclear programme and raising fears of a full-blown war between the two West Asian arch-rivals. It appears to be the biggest attack on Iran since the war with Iraq in the 1980s.

Abdullah said, “Today, Israel did what Russia did with Ukraine. You raise your voice against Russia, and a movement starts against Russia, but when Israel attacks Iran, the world powers – be it the US, Europe or any other country – go silent. “If an attack by a country like Russia on another is wrong, then an attack by Israel on Iran is also completely unjustified,” he said. The chief minister said this will worsen the situation in the region and will have an immediate impact on the world. “
It will affect our fuel prices, our stock market and flights to the West. But, more than that, it will affect the sentiments of the people,” he said. The chief minister also requested the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students in Iran. On Thursday’s plane crash in Ahmedabad, Abdullah said it was an unfortunate incident and offered his condolences to all the families who lost their loved ones, including the crew members. “We hope that the reasons behind the incident will be known soon. We also hope that such incidents do not happen in the future,” he said.
