Aishnya, the wife of Kanpur’s Shubham Dwivedi who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack, demanded on Saturday that her husband be given the status of a martyr. While talking to reporters, Aishnya said that she doesn’t want anything else from the government but that her husband Shubham Dwivedi, who was killed in the terror attack, should be given the status of a martyr.

Aishnya said, “The first bullet hit my husband and then the terrorists asked whether we are Hindus or Muslims… this gave many people time to run away and save their lives.” She said, “I don’t want anything else from the government but that Shubham should be given the status of a martyr. If the government accepts my wish, then I will also get a reason to live. Shubham sacrificed his life proudly by calling himself a Hindu and he has also saved the lives of many people. Aishnya said, “The person who shoots after asking the name and religion should be killed.”
Recalling the incident of April 22, Aishnya said that when the terrorists came to her and Shubham and asked them about their religion, she thought they were joking with the couple. She said, “As soon as they came, one of them asked whether we are Hindus or Muslims? I thought they (terrorists) were joking. I turned back, laughed and asked them what it was.” She said, “Then they repeated their question and as soon as I answered that we are Hindus, a bullet was fired and everything was over for me. Shubham’s face was covered with blood. I could not understand what had happened.”
Aishnya said she pleaded with the terrorists to shoot her too, but they (terrorists) refused and said they were letting her live so that she could go and tell the government what they had done. Shubham’s father Sanjay Dwivedi told reporters that there was no security there, neither any police personnel, nor army personnel. There was not even any security guard. He said that after about an hour the army personnel took control of the entire area.
