SGPC again objects to controversial movie Nanak Shah Fakir

Chandigarh April 9, 2015:The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has once again objected to the release of Nanak Shah Fakir as the makers of the movie seems decided to head with proposed release of the controversial movie on April 17 despite opposition from various Sikh circles.

SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar said, “We have already rejected the movie as any movie made on Sikh history is to be cleared by the SGPC. There is a clear bar on depiction of Sikh gurus and their families in movies.”

In a letter to Harinder Singh Sikka, Kanwar Pal Singh of the Dal Khalsa wrote, “You are striking at the roots of our faith, which is intolerable. The Sikh tenets prohibit the human representation of Sikh Gurus and their immediate families categorically, unambiguously and unmistakably. What you are about to do with the release of the movie is nothing short of blasphemy.”
