The issue have been topic of hot debate on social media sites and most of the Sikh participants believe that such activities were not result of any ignorance rather these were part of well thought conspiracy to attack Sikh principles under the disguise of “entertainment”.
It’s an established and well-known fact that the Sikh religion has no place for idol worshipping and Sikh Gurus have condemned/ rejected the practice of idol worshiping in “Gurbani” (the Sikh Scripture).
But Star Plus TV channel in it’s serial “Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai” aired on 16 July, 2014 did not only show a Sikh girl, married in a Hindu family, as worshiping idols but went a step further as she was shown as reciting Gurbani as “Aarti” (prayer) while worshiping Hindu idols.
The Gurbani (Moolmatar) recited in the episode itself rejects the idea of idol or avtar worshiping as it declares that Akal Purakh “ajooni” (one who does not take birth or die) and further that Akal Purakh is a “timeless” existence (One on which time does put have any impact) and it’s eternal truth.
The video was also put on YouTube by StarPlusTV at url:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Za3pJe4IXZk with title “Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai 16th July 2014 FULL EPISODE” but it’s access has now (at the time writing this news) been limited in access and YouTube displays the message “This video contains content from Starindia, who has blocked it on copyright grounds”.
Previously Colours Channel had named it’s serial as “Gurbani”, a screed term used to refer to the Sikh Scripture.
