Delhi Sikh youth leader arrested by police as Nanak Shah Fakir movie releases today

New Delhi, India 17 April 2015: Controversial movie Nanak Shah Fakir was released today despite strong opposition from the Sikh Panth. The BJP led Hindutva government ignored all voices of concern demanding ban on screening of NSF and the movie was allowed to be screened in India.

However, the Punjab government and Chandigarh administration has banned the screening of this movie. The movie could not be screened in Punjab and Chandigarh for next 2 months.

Meanwhile, the Delhi police took two Sikh youth activists into custody. Harminder Singh and Shavinder Singh were reportedly arrested by Delhi police belonging to Hari Nagar Police station.

Harminder Singh was taken into custody from his house. The police also arrested Shavinder Singh who had come to meet Harminder Singh.

It is notable that Harminder Singh has been lobbying with the Delhi government to ensure ban on Nanak Shah Fakir film.Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to the L-G of Delhi urging him to a take decision regarding screening of the controversial movie.

L-G office had ensured Sikh activists that the L-G will arrive on a decision this morning and they will be informed about his decision by 9 am, but at 9 am the Delhi police started arresting the Sikh youth activists.

Sources said that arrested Sikh youth activists are currently lodged at Hari Nagar police station. A number of Sikh activists have arrived at the police station to protest against arrest of their companions.
