Chandigarh, Amritsar 25 March 2015: Makers of the Nanak Shah Fakir movie have announced to release the film on April 17 but the movie is caught into controversy over depiction of Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Ji and His family in violation of Sikh traditions. The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has made it clear that it has already rejected the movie. The makers of the movie were publicizing that the movie was made with support and blessings of the Akal Takht Sahib but the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has denied any such support.
Sikh Youth of Punjab was first public body which announced to oppose the movie. Sikh Students Federation (Mehta) led by Paramjeet Singh Khalsa has announced to hold protest demonstrations against the movie throughout Punjab on March 25.
Another Sikh organization named Sikh Youth Federation Bhindranwale has also announced to strongly oppose the movie. In a written statement sent to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), SYFB president Balwant Singh Gopala and Ranjit Singh Damdami Taksal said that no one should be allowed to break up established and pious traditions of the Khalsa panth under the grab of ‘efforts to preach religion’. These movie were nothing less than an attack on fundamentals of Sikhi, therefore SYFB has decided to oppose the movie, Ranjit Singh Damdami Taksal said.
Makers of the movie have not come up with any explanation regarding controversy surrounding their movie.
