Chandigarh April 17, 2015 Controversial Hindi film Nanak Shah Fakir (NSF), which violates basic tenets of the Sikh panth by portraying Guru Nanak Ji, Bhai Mardana Ji and Bibi Nanaki Ji, is now banned in Chandigarh. Punjab government has already banned the film’s screening in the state for two months.
The Chandigarh administration has banned the film following an MHA advisory that the release could trigger a law and order situation in the city.
Film producer Harinder Sikka ignored all voices of concern against him movie, including those of Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh and the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC).
Showing no concerns for the ‘moral injury’ inflicted to the Sikh panth by him, the producer arrogantly stated, “Guru Nanak is not one person’s intellectual property” and argued that “no actor plays guru nanak, used special effects in film”.
His attitude shows that he lacks any sense of responsibility towards the Sikh panth or the Guru, otherwise he had not used words like “intellectual property” for the Guru.
Sikh organisation Dal Khalsa has already invoked the demon symbol of Nirankari sect head Gurbachan to describe the real nature of Harinder Sikka’s venture. Gurbachan had attempted personification of Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his followers had killed 13 peacefully protesting Sikhs on April 13, 1978.
