Punjab: Around 50 people fell ill after eating langar prasad and were hospitalized.

This incident occurred at Gurudwara Shri Thada Sahib, located in the Ayali Kala area, where a religious event was held annually on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. A large number of devotees attended the event and partook of the prasad. The administration and health department have taken notice of the incident and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the illness. According to information received so far, the prasad contained carrot halwa, which the devotees became ill after consuming.

Manjeet Kaur, an elderly woman undergoing treatment at the hospital, said she had brought carrot halwa home from Gurudwara Sahib. Everyone in the family ate the halwa as prasad. According to her, each person consumed about three spoons of the halwa, and within an hour, they began vomiting and their health deteriorated.

Giving information in this regard, doctors said that, a gathering was going on on the occasion of Makar Sankranti in the Gurudwara located in Ayali. Around 35-40 people had come during this time, which included many children and elderly people. People got food poisoning after eating the prasad of the langar, due to which their health deteriorated. Doctors told that the patients reached them in very bad condition. Their health deteriorated after eating the carrot halwa in the prasad. The people who fell ill said that the carrot halwa (gajrela) was made 2-3 days ago.

This has led to food poisoning. Gurdwara manager Gurcharan Singh clarified that the langar distributed on the occasion of Makar Sankranti was not organized by the gurdwara. He explained that, like every year, some local residents of the village had arranged the langar by pooling funds together. According to Gurcharan Singh, carrot halwa (gajarela) was also distributed as prasad by the same group. Some devotees consumed the prasad there, while many took it home. The gurdwara management distanced itself from the entire event.
