1984 Anti Sikh Riots: Ex-Congress Leader Sajjan Kumar get Life Imprisonment, Court Says NO to Death Penalty

On Tuesday 25th Feb 2025 a special court awarded life imprisonment to former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in murder case related to 1984 anti Sikh-riots

Sajjan Kumar was convicted for the murder of Father and son duo in November 1984 in Delhi Saraswati vihar. Earlier last week prosecutor submitted that death penalty should be imposed citing Nirbhaya case.

Sikh leader Gurlad Singh on this verdict reacts and said ” We will not accept anything less then the death penalty. He said we are not happy with life imprisonment verdict of the court. Hee said we will appeal to the government to go to a higher court and announce death penalty for Sajjan Kumar.

Currently in Tihal Jail Kumar faced charges related to leading a violent mob that engaged in looting and damaging Sikh properties after Prime Minister Indira Gandhi assassination.

According to complainant wife of Jaswant killing men and looting articles and setting their house on fire. Last week the Delhi court found Sajjan Kumar guilty of killings in Sarswati Vihar of Delhi. Sajjan Kumar already serving a life term for another riot-related murder case.
