M 7.5 Earthquake for 35km E of Lamjung, Major Nepal earthquake shakes India

World ,25 April 2015: An earthquake with magnitude 7.5 occurred near Pokhara, Nepal at 06:11:25.80 UTC on Apr 25, 2015. (This event has been reviewed by a seismologist.)A major earthquake struck the North and Northeast India on Friday just before noon.As per the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicentre of the quake was Lamjung in Nepal.

The magnitude of the quake in Nepal was recorded at 7.5 on the Richter scale.In India, tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab,Haryana, Bihar, West Bengal and Sikkim.

The tremors in Delhi were felt for over a minute.

People were seen rushing out of their homes and offices.

  • Expect aftershocks. These secondary shockwaves are usually less violent than the main quake but can be strong enough to do additional damage to weakened structures and can occur in the first hours, days, weeks, or even months after the quake.
  • Look for and extinguish small fires. Fire is the most common hazard after an earthquake.
  • Be aware of possible tsunamis if you live in coastal areas. These are also known as seismic sea waves (mistakenly called “tidal waves”). When local authorities issue a tsunami warning, assume that a series of dangerous waves is on the way. Stay away from the beach.
  • Be careful when driving after an earthquake and anticipate traffic light outages.
